Loss of Smell
Loss of smell, or anosmia, can be due to a variety of causes including the common cold, hay fever, rhinitis, certain medications, and tumors of the nose or brain could all be the culprit of your loss of smell. Loss of smell as a result of aging is also a common cause. It is important to determine the cause of your symptoms to develop a proper treatment plan. Consult a doctor if your degree of smelling loss worsens or doesn’t go away after a couple weeks.
A doctor will be able to rule out the more serious conditions that could be causing your problems. Your physician will look at your medical history and ask you questions related to your loss of smell. They might recommend a CT or MRI scan or a nasal endoscopy.
