Parathyroid
The parathyroid glands are small glands located in the neck behind the thyroid gland. They secrete Parathyroid Hormone which helps regulate the body’s calcium metabolism. If the parathyroid glands become enlarged or hyperactive you can develop hyperparathyroidism. This condition can result in problems with kidney stones, weakened and broken bones, abdominal pain, chronic fatigue, and even mental health problems. A simple blood test can determine if the glands are functioning normally. If you have evidence of hyperparathyroidism on blood work imaging of the glands will likely be performed for further evaluation. Surgery is the mainstay of treatment for hyperparathyroidism and our physicians are experts in the management of parathyroid disorders. Call us to discuss your treatment options.
